Can be diagnosed from Scardinius erythrophthalmus by having the following combination of characters: compact body and head, head width 15-17% SL (vs. 13-14), head length 28-31% SL (vs. 24-8) and caudal peduncle depth 1.3-1.7 times in its length (vs. 1.5-2.0) (Ref. 59043).
Inhabits densely vegetated, shallow hot spring with mud bottom (Ref. 59043).
