Short description
Claves de identificación | Morfología | Morfometría
Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 8; Radios blandos anales: 7 - 9. Diagnosis: Distinguished from other cyprinids except Notropis buccatus by having a modified infraorbital and preoperculomandibular canals. It differs from N. buccatus by possessing longer gill rakers (length to width average 2.2, 4.8-2.5 vs. 1.0, 0.8-1.4), absence of breast squamation (vs. with scales), and possessing 5 infraorbital ossicles (vs. 4) (Ref. 57709).
The species occurs in small schools, often in clear, shallow (up to 50 cm) streams in slow to moderate runs; prefers sandy to sand mixed with gravel substrates (Ref. 57709).
