Chiavi di identificazione | Morfologia | Morfometria
Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 9 - 10; Raggi anali molli: 17 - 19; Vertebre: 33 - 34. Differs from all other species of the genus by the following characters: small size (less than 3.1 cm SL vs. larger than 3.5 cm SL), presence of dark lateral band (vs. absent); flat dorsal edge of the orbit and flat ventral edge of the upper (vs. convex); unequal jaws with the superior jaw longer than the inferior (vs. jaws equal); and mouth subterminal (vs. terminal). Can also be differentiated by its long pelvic fins, reaching the anal-fin origin (vs. short and ends not reaching anal-fin origin), 33-34 vertebrae (vs. 37-43) and 14-16 branched anal fin rays (vs. 21-28).
