Etymology: Pimelodus: Greek, pimele = fat + Greek, odous = teeth (Ref. 45335); britskii: Named for Dr. Heraldo Antonio Britski, of Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, for his significant contributions to Neotropical systematic ichthyology.
