Inhabits sheltered, shallow areas near submerged plant stands, over mud and hard substrate (Ref. 4983). Major content of the guts which were examined consisted of macerated phanerogam tissue and varying amounts of epiphytic diatoms. Some specimens contained a flocculent, grey-green mass thought to be bottom debris, principally blue-green algae. Also fish, insect eggs, tissue mass and fragments of Ephemeroptera and other insects were found (Ref. 558).
