Etymology: Eumicrotremus: Greek, eu = good + Greek, mikros = little, small + Greek, trema = hole (Ref. 45335); uenoi: Named for Dr. Tatsuji Ueno, formerly of the Hokkaido Fisheries Experimental Station, he contributed greatly to the systematics of Cyclopteridae.

Spine dorsali (totale) : 5 - 7; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 7 - 9; Raggi anali molli: 6 - 9; Vertebre: 22 - 25. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: body without spiny tubercles or fleshy papillae (weak if present); anterior three mandibular pores each with a barbel-like tube; interorbital and suborbital pores are usually present; opercular flap rounded; ventral disk with many papillae; caudal-fin is relatively short, 19.5-31.4% of SL (Ref. 115553).
