Etymology: Triplophos: Greek, triplos = three + Greek, phos = light.
Eponymy: Captain Thomas Henry Heming RN (d: 1856) was (1898–1907) Commander, Royal Indian Marine Survey Steamer ‘Investigator’ from which the holotype was collected. He carried out soundings in the Humber estuary (1909). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

From 200-800 m in tropical waters.
