Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical; 24°C - 26°C (Ref. 2060); 3°S - 9°S
Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, occurs along the coast of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Ref. 27631, 94008).

Max length : 5.5 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 5667)
Shell-dweller (Ref. 6770, 7343), or at least a shell-spawner (Ref. 6770). Dwarf species (Ref. 6770). Found over muddy areas; feeds on small invertebrates, like shrimp and insect larvae (Ref. 7343). Specimens have been caught at a depth of 35 m and in area with many Neothauma shells (Ref. 53528, 94008). Shrimp remnants found in stomach (Ref. 53528).
