Etymology: Nothobranchius: Greek, nothos = false + Greek, brangchia = gill (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Gustaf Palmqvist was the patron who funded the Kilimanjaro-Meru expedition (1905– 1906) led by Yngve Sjöstedt (q.v.) which collected the type (and 27 other species in the same genus). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
