Etymology: Nemipterus: Greek, nema, -atos = filament + Greek, pteron = wing, fin (Ref. 45335).

Body pinkish above, shading through pale mauve to silvery on ventral half with 4 or 5 longitudinal, upward-curved silvery-white stripes along the middle of each scale row below lateral line.
